Game Making – Danger on the Train – Reworking the Storyboard

Thoughts since I last worked on the game

  • I think the narrative needs to be edited and simplified
  • I think the idea to have multiple games of different formats embedded within the game may be confusing for game of this size
  • Instead I think that having 2-3 platform games that build on each other in an episodic way – they come back 2-3 times during the main game narrative – might be a better way of creating a sense of progression

Aims for todays session

  • to finish the update on the storyboard images (using photos) to start giving more shape to the visuals. I still would like to illustrate these but at this prototype stage, I think it’s better to continue to work with rough and quick images.
  • I also want to start on the platform game elements

Working on the platform game

  • I had forgotten a lot of the steps and needed to go back to looking at tutorials for using tilemaps
  • I decided to go back to paper and plan how I want this version of the game to flow, including what the platform elements look like, and then come back to constructing it
