Context

  • I have been looking for a good way to display my artist website for the last few years
  • I suspect that my website will be useful when looking for jobs in the future and therefore want to get this right
  • I thought that being able to code a website would help me create a unique website but that could also help my work stand out in the right way
  • I realised that the level of code that I need to do this would require a lot more learning and learning front-end development is not my priority or interest at the moment
  • In January I revised my website to try and simplify the layout and to communicate a ‘tech’ vibe
  • I wanted to use simple HTML and CSS and no JavaScript
  • The website homepage:
  • I also created a rolling blog-style page for my work which spanned the last 4 years
  • I quickly became dissatisfied with the way it looked and also worried about how it would function across different devices
  • I decided to scrap the idea and use the built in WordPress access that my web hosting company provides
  • I have decided that for the moment, I don’t have the time to dive deeper into front end design, UI and UX

Using WordPress to design my new website

  • I decided to try and keep the design simple and also to reduce the amount of work that I show
  • I re-wrote my artist statement, made some new work and created an About section

The Finished Website

  • The website has been reformatted to a very simple layout
  • It is now ready for me to populate it with a new portfolio of work
