
As I was listening to this, I was thinking about my idea to create an ‘intimacy machine’ where I encourage people to touch me while software collects and feedback data about their body changes back to them in the form of music.
Abramović talks about the way they have used ‘performance’ throughout their career and speaks about both the deepness and lightness that the work requires from her.
I was interested in the way she talked about doing performance pieces with the public and opening herself up to potential risks by doing so.
I was also interested in this idea of needing to draw on meditative states to be able to be present / withstand the long interactive performances where the work is inviting questions about what it means to affect someone or connect with them.
Things for me to think through more specifically when I come back to thinking about the idea for my final project…
