Watched – Video – Comparing Different Game Engines

This was a very interesting video. It was good to see how a game concept (a catch the falling object game) needed to be adapted according to the possibilities and constraints of different platforms.

It helped me understand some of the logic and physics that are required for game interaction, score count, and also aspects of good visual design.

It also helped clarify some of the challenges RE coding and being able to understand the fundamentals of different coding approaches.

Outcome

At some point it might be useful for me to learn the fundamentals of Python or one of the older languages and try to apply this learning to game design. Even if I don’t use the languages regularly, I think they will probably help my general understanding of how software and games engines work. At present it doesn’t feel time efficient to do this, but I may have more time in Semester 3.
